People That Help Us Visitors

Sarah dressed up in Fireman Gary's uniform!

We’ve had some very special visitors in nursery during the last two weeks…

First,  a Police Community Support Officer called Ally came to visit us to show us her uniform and tell us about how she helps us. We got to see and hold her handcuffs, fluorescent yellow jacket and her radio and then she told us all about her police van. The sirens are very loud and it has flashing blue and red lights!

Last week we had a fireman from Ashfield Fire Station visit us. Gary showed us his special uniform and dressed Sarah up as a firefighter! He told us how he helps to keep us safe and how we can keep ourselves safe if we find ourselves in a fire. We all practised shouting “Fire! Everybody out!” and learnt that we need to stay low to the ground to keep away from the smoke.

We have one more special visitor coming to see us this half term…I wonder who it will be?!

Nursery Homework

34605-NZPAI2-01

Our ‘homework’ in nursery is to develop a love of books in your children!

It is really important that your children have the opportunity to hear lots of stories read aloud to them and are then given time to join in with the stories, talk about what they see in the pictures and what they have heard. This helps young children to learn how stories are structured in preparation for independent writing, develop a wider vocabulary and improve speaking and listening skills.

We ask that you purchase a book bag from Jo in the office and then we will set you up with a reading diary and a bedtime book. You will have the opportunity to change your child’s bedtime book on a Monday, Wednesday and a Friday and we encourage you to choose the book with your child and discuss why you may like to read the story or what it might be about. Don’t worry if your child wants to read the same book several times – this is normal and really good for your children’s developing skills!

Reading Challenge

We would like to set you and your child a little challenge during your time in nursery – can you share a story at least 5 times a week and record it in your reading diary? We will have a sneaky look in your diary during Wednesday sessions and will add your name to the star readers wall of fame in our story tent. The children that manage to read 5 times a week the most times during each term will receive a little prize!

Good Luck!

Welcome to Nursery!

Hello and welcome back to Nursery! We hope you have all had a fantastic break enjoying the lovely summer weather.

Now it’s September, we are looking forward to welcoming some of our old faces back and lots of new ones in the next few weeks.

Our theme this half term will be ‘People who help us’. We will be taking parts in lots of activities and finding out about different occupations that provide help for us. We will also hopefully be having some visitors come to talk to us.

Here’s hoping we have a fun filled half term!
