Mother’s Day Sweet Peas

Hopefully by now your sweet peas should be growing well and looking beautiful, but can we please remind you that the ‘peas’ are NOT edible. They are poisonous and children should not be encourgaed to touch and eat them.

Thank you

Welcome back!

Welcome back to our final half term of the year! We hope you all had a lovely half term break and are ready for the exciting weeks ahead of us.

We had a very busy last half term following our topic ‘Let it Grow’. We took part in lots of activities involving listening and retelling stories, planting and growing, observing, painting and printing, cooking and many, many more. A few of the activities are listed below, talk to your children about them to find out more!

  • Stories we read – The Tiny Seed, Jack and the Beanstalk, Oliver’s Vegetables and Jasper’s Beanstalk.
  • We grew our own cress, then made egg sandwiches and ate them.
  • We planted our own magic beans and watched them grow. They are now planted in the garden  – I wonder if we’ll have a giant come to visit us?
  • We looked closely at different vegetables, drew them, painted them, chopped them and made soup from them. A display all about this work will be going in somewhere in school shortly – can you spot where it is?!
  • We ran our own garden center role play area.
  • We planted some flowers in pots to brighten up our garden.

We also had a very special week celebrating the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan. We made crowns and decorations for the classroom, watched the wedding of Prince William and Kate to see what a grand Royal wedding looks like, had a miniature Windsor set up on on small world area with the castle, church, well wishers and the wedding party all there and finally we had a special tea party at the end of the week complete with our very own wedding cake and cucumber sandwiches!

This half term we will be going on a Camping Adventure. We will be using our camping role play area, finding out about the seasons, going on animal hunts and using our Forest School site again on Fridays. We cant wait!!

Autumn 2 in Foundation One

We’ve had a lovely start to Autumn 2 in Foundation One, with a very busy first week celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night. The children enjoyed playing in our bonfire role play area inside and learnt how to stay safe around fire. Because the children had been working so hard remembering our fire circle rules at Forest school we treated them to hot dogs cooked on a real fire – all the children behaved amazingly and we have already had requests from the children for more cooking on the fire at forest school – we had better get our chefs hats on as the children have said they would like soup, stew and pizza!

Our topic for the rest of the half term is called ‘Home Sweet Home’ with a big focus on Christmas and our performance coming up.  We are starting off our role play area as a bathroom, then moving onto a kitchen and then onto a very special living room dressed ready for Christmas. We will be making poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day, taking part in National Nursery Rhyme week and hopefully taking part in our PTA’s enterprise project to make and sell items for the Christmas Fair before finally ending the year with our fabulous Christmas Party!

We love this half term and have lots of lovely activities planned for the children – keep looking at the website for more updates!
