Physical Education at Hillocks!

Physical Education at Hillocks!

At Hillocks, we are so lucky because we have Mark Dobb & Miss Dunn helping to deliver the PE curriculum across all key stages and organising lots of extra-curricular activities.

All children should have their PE kit in school at all times.

PE Kit at Hillocks consists of:

  • Shorts or Jogging bottoms

  • T-shirt/Polo

  • Plimsolls/trainers

  • A suitable sports jumper/jacket

Children should NOT wear any jewellery during PE lessons and should be removed before your child comes to school (staff are not permitted to put earrings in for children).

In the Summer we often increase the amount of outdoor PE taught, it is therefore so important that children apply and wear sun cream to protect them.

KS1 and KS2 have the opportunity of swimming lessons during the year, your children will given a letter to confirm when their lessons are. Swimming takes place at Lammas Leisure Centre on Tuesday afternoons.

If your child is unable to take part in PE lessons for medical reasons then a letter should be sent with them to school.

BUMFRESH TOWERS THEME PARK!!

CIMG7638

The children enjoyed using their map skills to design their own theme park linking to ‘Billionaire Boy’. They also wrote some fabulous persuasive writing to go up on our new display in school.

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL

Our wheelchair basketball session from today.

Wheelchair basketball was played at the first Paralympic Games, held in 1960 in Rome, and is one of the few sports to have been present at all editions.

All of 5SD had a great session learning about its development over the last 50 years and enjoyed having a go at basic skills like pivoting and acceleration.

REVOLTING SANDWICHES

Meet Mrs Trafe from Billionaire Boy. David Walliams as Mrs Trafe in the film.

Mrs Trafe was a large, smiley soul, of dinner-lady age. Bob had explained on the way to the canteen that she was nice enough, but her food was truly revolting. The kids in the school would rather die than eat anything she cooked. In fact they probably would die if they ate anything she cooked.

In year 5, we used this particular part of the book to enjoy making our own revolting sandwiches and writing a set of instructions on how to do so. Let us know if you would like to place an order; we can provided extra toenail clippings and grass garnish free of charge.

BILLIONAIRE BOY

This half term, Year 5 have been reading ‘Billionaire Boy’ by David Walliams and they have thoroughly enjoyed it.

‘A touching and extraordinary novel about a boy who has everything… apart from friends!’

In English, we have written biographies on David Walliams and made up our own narratives called ‘Gazillionaire Girl’.

Punctuality award for 5SD!

Children arriving to school with time to spare have the luxury of settling in, preparing their class materials and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. They have all the time they need to literally and figuratively wake up. Students showing up to class in the middle of a lesson miss out on this natural transition period and may lose even more of the lesson as they scurry to settle into an academic focus.

WELL DONE 5SD- KEEP IT UP!
