Class 5DH

Well done to our year 5 Tennis team! Thank you for representing Hillocks at Sutton Academy. You showed great passion and determination! Keep it up!

Over 350 children from other schools took part in this event.

The boys came 22nd overall and the girls came 5th overall.

One of our year 5 girls came 3rd out of 120 runners in her race. As a result, she has now been selected to compete in the district finals to represent Hillocks!

Each child ran approximately 0.7 miles, they gave their absolute best and supported each other along the way!

Welcome to Year 5DH

Dear Parents, Carers and children,

The term has already got off to a wonderful start and Class 5 are settling into their new year group brilliantly.

Thank you to all who managed to come and see me at the parents’ meeting on the 12th. For those of you unable to make it, everything that was covered should be included here. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to come and speak to me after school.

I teach on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Currently, Thursdays and Fridays are covered by Mr Goddard. Our class TA is Katie Carter.

The children will be having Forest Schools on Tuesday afternoons. This will take place in all weathers, so can children please ensure they have warm clothes, waterproofs and wellies in school every Tuesday.

Our regular PE slot is currently on Fridays, but we may do PE at other times throughout the week. Can children ensure their PE kit comes into school on a Monday and goes home to be washed on a Friday.

PE will be outdoors as much as we can manage, so kit needs to be appropriate for cooler weather – joggers, a warm jacket, and hat and gloves are ideal.

We will no longer be setting weekly homework for English and Maths, though we may send work home occasionally to support what we are doing in class.

It is expected that children are reading at home every day – this does not have to be a school book, and it includes being read to by an adult or older sibling. We’d appreciate if any reading could be recorded in their reading diary.

Spellings and times tables will still be tested on a weekly basis. We will practise as much as we can during school time. Children will be tested on Thursdays, and new spellings will be sent out on either Thursdays or Fridays.

Thank you all for sending your children in uniform and working hard to make sure they are in school on time. We really appreciate your support with this.

Kind regards,

Donna Holloway
